This week the spring One Room Challenge kicks off! This will be my second time participating. What I loved about the One Room Challenge last time was that the DIY community really came together to support one another in their progress. At each step of the way, DIYers were inspired to try new things and complete amazing room transformations.
This spring is a special 10th anniversary edition for the One Room Challenge, so they have partnered with the one and only Apartment Therapy. As always, for more details, check out the One Room Challenge Blog, and make sure you keep up with the amazing work of other DIYers & Designers as well.
This year, I’ve chosen to work on my dining room. This is the largest room in my house, and though I’ve done some work to it already, it has never felt finished. As the connecting space to many rooms in my house, it doesn’t feel cohesive to my style. It also often serves as a dumping grounds for backpacks, mail, and other items throughout the week. My goals are quite normal to who I am: storage, function, & style.
There are pieces that will be staying in this space. For example I built a table and bench a few years ago that I still absolutely love, so I will be keeping them. I also really like the giant rug in this room. Other pieces are staying, but getting a major face lift, like the coffee bar.
There are a few things that I’ll be just totally getting rid of including the acoustic ceiling tiles, farmhouse chandelier, and chairs that I spray painted from our old dining set.
Here is my specific project list for this space:
*Demo ceiling tiles
*Drywall ceiling (add joint compound, prime & paint)
*Add new crown molding
*make four new dining chairs from scratch
*update countertop on the coffee bar
*build library style built-ins above the coffee bar, prime & paint
*new chandelier & some lighting on the built-ins
I have a lot of fun ideas for this space, and I can’t wait to bring them to life. Follow along here for weekly updates!
